Scholarship Awards Ceremony 2015

We honored two outstanding scholarship recipients and an Alicia Baro Award recipient on August 15, 2015, at the Miami Springs Country Club.

Puerto Ricans Overseas in Florida (PROOF) also celebrated their Silver Anniversary and awarded two other young ladies with PROOF scholarships as well. So overall, the event was a huge success.

While the recipients were traveling towards college, parents and relatives gladly arrived in their stead to accept the scholarship awards on their behalf.

As a token of appreciation, Carly, one of the scholarship recipients, sent us this heartfelt message:

Carly Medina, NACOPRW Miami scholarship winner of 2015I am honored to be the recipient of the NACOPRW Scholarship and grateful for the opportunities it will provide me. Because of your generosity, the financial burden placed on me to pursue my education will be reduced. That means that I can spend more time on my studies, research, and extracurricular activities and less time worrying about finances.I am so happy that my grandparents were there to accept this amazing award on my behalf while I travel to college.

Thank you for your investment in the futures of Puerto Rican students like me.

Sincerely,
Carly Medina

Congratulations, Carly! It is our pleasure to help you pursue studying biochemistry and public policy. We wish you a bright and successful future!

Other than the scholarship recipients, we rewarded Dr. Lilian Rivera with the Alicia Baro Achievement Award of 2015.

Dr. Lilian Rivera, recipient of the 2015 Alicia Baro Award

Dr. Lilian Rivera is the treasurer of the Miami-Dade County Health Department, who is responsible for overseeing an $80 million dollar budget with nearly 900 employees in MDC. Anyone who continues to read about her extensive background in the medical/health industry from the Florida Institute for Health Innovation can understand how she’s earned this award. (She also received the Outstanding Professional Performance & Community Service Award from us in 2011.)

Congrats to Dr. Lilian Rivera, who also spoke highly of Alicia Baro and the positive influence she’s had on her–while accepting the reward with pride and gratitude in her name.
